WILLEMSTAD – On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, the Court of Justice decided not to give a ruling in the case of the Prosecution Curaçao against 3 Venezuelans who were arrested by the Coast Guard Caribbean Area on October 30, 2017 in the “exclusive economic zone” (EEZ) of Venezuela with almost 350 kilo of cocaine.
It is unclear to the Court of First Instance, in accordance with international law of the sea, the UN Maritime Transport Convention and the Coastal Law Kingdom, whether the Coast Guard was authorized to enter and arrest the Venezuelans in the EEZ.
The case was referred back to the investigators (RC) by the judge for hearing of experts. The case will be reopened on July 13.
