PHILIPSBURG–The formal approval of St. Maarten’s request for funding for the construction of a wing for the new general hospital is still pending at the World Bank.

As part of the World Bank process to approve funding, a requirement is that the proposed projects meet World Bank’s bidding or procurement requirements, a press release from the Cabinet of Health Minister Emil Lee said on Thursday.

According to the release, World Bank representatives said the tender process for the new hospital for St. Maarten is consistent with the World Bank’s procurement framework.

Lee said he is very confident about the process. “The funding requested from the World Bank will ensure that all the original concept of the new general hospital will be met. With the change of specifications post-Irma, this left that a new wing for the hospital would be omitted in the initial construction phase,” the release said.

Lee said that when the World Bank funding is realised, there will no longer be a need to cut off from “the wish-list.”
