Vandaag laten we Tamara Neuman aan het woord.

Last week I had the pleasure of attendìng another Literary Café organized at Bloemhof. This time to delve into the beautiful mind of Lucille Berry-Haseth. With much flair and gusto, the grand dame of the Papiamentu language took us on a journey into her past, giving us a glimpse into the many wonderful people who helped form her into the talented person she has become.

Unpretentious, eloquent, feisty, humorous, warmhearted and down to earth are just a few of the many words that can be used to describe the delightfully dynamic lady that is Lucille Berry-Haseth. With a love for our language that puts me to shame (I couldn’t even manage thìs article in Papiamentu, my sincerest apologies for that, Lucille!)‚ she delighted the public with flawlessly recited ‘bande- ritas’ and some of her most poignant poems.

It was again a perfectly organized event, with magnificent orators who, together with Lucille, helped transform the evening, giving it an almost fairytale feel. The three wise men (in this edition, two men and one woman) did not dìsappoint, giving beautiful rendìtions of Lucille, as perceived by them. My compliments once more to the Bloemhof crew, for putting together such an inspiring and magical Literary Café and, as aptly stated by one of the wise man: I love Lucy!

Tamara Neuman,
Curacao
