VOORUITGANG
Regeren doen we zelf. Niet echt zelf natuurlijk, maar via de mensen die wij als onze vertegenwoordigers in de Staten van het Land Curaçao hebben gekozen. De macht is aan het volk. Dat noemen we dan democratie. De minst slechte van alle staatsvormen, wordt wel gezegd. Maar er is veel kritiek op de politiek. Politici zijn altijd maar met macht en met zichzelf of hun vriendjes bezig. Politici doen te weinig voor het volk. Ze beloven van alles, maar er komt maar weinig van terecht. Er moet daarom iets veranderen.
Iedereen wil verandering. Maar niet iedere verandering is ook een verbetering. Wat mensen willen is perspectief op een betere toekomst. Denk aan bijvoorbeeld: Een leuke baan. Een goed inkomen. Goed onderwijs. Goede en betaalbare gezondheidszorg. Een schoon milieu. Integere politici. Goede wegen. Een samenleving waarin wederzijds respect heel normaal is.
Kortom, wat mensen willen is welzijn. En wel welzijn voor iedereen, en niet alleen voor een kleine groep. Als we bouwen aan de toekomst van Curaçao dan moet iedereen daarbij worden betrokken, en moet iedereen in de vooruitgang kunnen delen.
Er is een groep mensen die roept om hervormingen. De groep rond Gerrit Schotte. Hun kreet: REFORMA. Die groep wil een ander kiessysteem. Maar leidt een andere kiessysteem tot meer welzijn voor het volk? En wat wil die groep eigenlijk?
Schotte wil dat een partij (vooral de zijne) meer macht krijgt. In zijn visie mogen in de toekomst statenleden hun partij niet verlaten zonder hun statenzetel op te geven. Hij wil meer stabiliteit, wat zoveel wil zeggen als: meer macht in zijn handen. Het individu (en individuele geweten) moet plaatsmaken voor het collectief (de partij), maar die partij staat uiteindelijk in de sterke greep van één of enkele individuen (partijdiscipline). Voeg daar dan nog eens de gekozen minister-president aan toe, en je kunt het politieke landschap en de politieke machtsverhoudingen zoals Schotte die wil zo uittekenen. Behalve een klein groepje mensen, wordt niemand daar vrolijk van, laat staan beter. Zijn petitie is niet voor niets zo vaag opgesteld, en het is niet voor niets dat “brood & spelen” (een groot feest met drank, hapjes en muziek) hem aan zijn handtekeningen moeten helpen.
Het volk verdient beter. Bovendien leidt een nieuw kiesstelsel niet tot betere politici. Als we van Curaçao een (nog) mooier land willen maken, waarin het voor iedereen prettig leven is, dan moeten we zelf aan de slag. Niet wachten tot dat er van bovenaf plannen worden opgelegd en uitgevoerd. We wachten al te lang. We kunnen onze toekomst zelf bepalen. De toekomst ligt in onze handen. Wij kunnen met zijn allen iets van Curaçao maken. Maar dan moeten we wel aan de slag. Hoe eerder hoe beter.
Hervormingen zijn prima, maar het volk moet er wel beter van worden. Daarom moeten niet de hervormingen centraal staan, maar de vooruitgang. PROGRESO! Meer welvaart en vooral meer welzijn voor iedereen. Denk mee over de toekomst en plaats je ideeën op de Facebookpagina. Help mee met het opbouwen van Curaçao. Samen werken aan het welzijn van het volk van Curaçao!
PROGRESO wil een beweging van het volk zijn. Géén politieke partij, maar wel een groep die invloed uitoefent. Een groep die bouwt aan de toekomst. Een groep die kiest voor solidariteit en respect.

PROGRESS
Governing is what we do ourselves. Obviously not by ourselves but via people we have elected as our representatives in the States of the Country of Curaçao. The people have the power. We call this democracy. The least bad of all forms of government, it is said. But there is a lot of criticism of politics. Politicians are always busy with power, with themselves or with their buddies. Politicians don’t do enough for the people. They promise all sorts, but hardly anything is accomplished. That is why something has to change.
Everybody wants a change. But not every change is also an improvement. What people want is a perspective on a better future. For instance: A nice job. A good income. Proper education. Good and affordable healthcare. A clean environment. Incorruptible politicians. Good roads. A society in which mutual respect is very normal.
In short, what people want is wellbeing. This means wellbeing for everybody and not merely for a small group. If we are building on the future of Curaçao everybody must be involved in this and everybody must be able to share in the progress.
There is a group of people calling for reforms. The group around Gerrit Schotte. Their slogan is: REFORMA. This group wants a different voting system. But will a different voting system lead to more wellbeing for the people? And what exactly does this group want?
Schotte wants a party (particularly his own) to have more power. In his vision of the future members of the States cannot leave their party without relinquishing their seat in the States. He wants more stability, which means: more power in his hands. The individual (and individual conscience) must make room for the collective (the party), but that party ends up in the strong grip of one or several individuals (party discipline). Just add to this the elected Minister-President, and you can straight away draw the political landscape and the political power relationships as desired by Schotte. Except for a small group of people, no-one else will be happier let alone better-off. His petition has not been formulated so vaguely for nothing and it is not for nothing that ‘bread & circuses’ (a big feast with alcohol, snacks and music) are needed to help him to collect his signatures.
The people deserve better. Moreover, a new voting system will not lead to better politicians. If we want to make Curaçao an (even) nicer country, where it is pleasant for everybody to live, we ourselves have to get started. Don’t wait until plans are imposed and executed from above. We have already been waiting far too long. We can determine our future ourselves. The future is in our hands. Together we can make something of Curaçao. But then we have to get started. The sooner the better.
Reforms are fine but it should be for the benefit of the people. That is why it is not the reforms but progress that should be central. PROGRESO!
