PDVSA, Shell ink Caribbean contracts

Petróleos de Venezuela, SA (PDVSA) and the company Shell Venezuela, SA, signed a contract for technical services, supply of materials and services, for the use of natural gas in the north of Monagas state.

The contract includes the provision of technical assistance, as well as the supply of materials and services required for the use of natural gas associated with oil production, focused on the Furrial and Punta de Mata Operational Divisions of the Eastern Production Executive Directorate.

In addition, it covers a total of 11 subprojects to reduce gas flaring; improve and maintain the compression capacity; eliminate problems of liquid drag in plants; Carry out the procurement of equipment and spare parts, as well as adjust and optimize the flow stations.

This initiative seeks to reduce gas burning volumes and maximize the use of resources. The Ministry of People’s Power of Petroleum and PDVSA evaluated various projects, taking into account important criteria such as the expectations and volume to be incorporated or sustained in gas compression capacity, impact on operations, volume of reduction of burned gas, costs, execution, condition of the assets and reliability.

In addition, the Bolivarian Government will reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, thus complying with the international agreements signed on this issue, as well as minimizing the effect of light and heat generated by the burning of gas on site in the surrounding communities.
