AVA Airways calls for rectification from Minister Jardim on false and defamatory statements

WILLEMSTAD – With astonishment, the Chairman of Ava Airways Curaçao, Mr. Olivier Arrindell took notice of an announcement made by the Interim Minister of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning, Dr. Jose Jardim.

The Minister said during a televised interview that AVA’s economic permit was rejected, because the airline did not have all the necessary documents for this permit.

“This statement is false. Ava Airways has never received a letter of rejection from the Government of Curaçao for its Economic permit. On April 29, 2015 the Minister took it on his own will without the approval of his coalition partner PNP, who is responsible for the Ministry of Transportation, to send Ava Airways a letter asking the airline for one more document which was already provided to the former Minister of Transportation Earl Balborda.”

The Chairman of Ava Airways indicates that the does not find it to be professional on the part of the Minister to use the name of the airline to pull a political stunt one day before the inauguration of the New Minister of Transportation Hon. Suzanne Camelia-Römer.

The statements made by Minister Dr. Jardimare false, defamatory, slander and constitute tortious interference with the company’s business, and as such, are actionable under Curaçao law.

Arrindell also stated that Ava Airways is looking forward to working with the new Minister to take the corrective process measures, with the objective to restore justice and fairness towards Ava Airways in the more than 15 months duration of Government & Aviation authority dealing of this economic license request.

“Our aim now is for the government to immediately approve AVA’s license, thereby correcting the previous processes, in the interest of free competition and better economic climate for the future of Curaçao and all its inhabitants.”

“Minister Suzanne Camelia-Römer indicated on national radio that she is also looking forward to meeting with the Ava Airways team to work out all matters in the interest of fairness and is committed to the national interest of Curaçao’s aviation sector”

said the AVA Airways chairman.
