WILLEMSTAD – Today, January 18th is the so called ‘Blue Monday’, or the most depressing day of the year, but not in Curaçao. The people of the tropical island of Curaçao are known as one of the happiest in the Kingdom, where people have a positive attitude towards life. It is therefore no wonder that four of the five inhabitants of Curaçao are not even familiar with the term Blue Monday. This emerges from a research conducted by NovioData and commissioned by Abovo Media among 533 respondents from the Netherlands and Curaçao. To counter the gloom of Blue Monday in the Netherlands, the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) started a campaign to put a smile on the face of the Dutch people. The overall campaign runs until Sunday February 28. Participants also have a chance to win a trip to Happy Curaçao with their photographs.

Are Curaçaoans happier than the Dutch people? Certainly. On average, someone from Curaçao gives a 7.7 to his or her state of happiness while the Dutch remains at a 7.1. The people of Curaçao are also positive about life, with an average grade of 7.9 against the Dutch with an average of 7.3. The people in Curaçao are happier is, according to the Dutch respondents, due to the climate, which is better than in the Netherlands (80%), there is less stress (69%) and everyone takes it easy on the island (63%). Also, 54 percent of the Curaçao respondents think that the nice weather has contributed to this. Those who celebrate holidays or live in Curaçao know what the Dushi way of life is that makes one happy.

Whoever thinks of the sun, the azure blue water and beautiful beaches of the island can only be cheerful right? This is why Curaçao calls on all to share pictures of happy faces with #HappyFaceCuraçao on social media. Participants have also a chance to win a trip to Happy Curaçao with their photographs. With the campaign #HappyFaceCuraçao, the CTB wants to give a positive turn to Blue Monday and winter months. “The thought of our island makes the day brighter for so many people.”
