WILLEMSTAD – According to the Member of Parliament for the ruling party Pueblo Soberano, Melvin Cijntje, the departure of the former Prime Minister of Curaçao, Ivar Asjes was prompted by an accumulation of problems between him and the PS parliamentary faction.

Cijntje indicated that the manner in which the surveillance cameras were purchased by the government without a public tender is an example of those problems between the former Prime Minister and his faction in parliament.

Another example is the way the public company Refineria di Korsou (RdK), which owns the oil refinery is performing work at the refinery. “There is no public tender held for projects such as refurbishing tanks, roads or siding asbestos,” said the PS leader.

On the question of why the PS faction voted in favor of the CCTV cameras, the leader said that indeed they did vote in favor of this project presented by the Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro, but that it is still not right. “The procedure was not transparent and we can’t continue like this. It is not according to party standards.”

The PS faction leader did not want to go into more details about the dismissal of the former Prime Minister. “If a Minister is dismissed by us, then it is not nice to go into details about the reasons why we took that decision.”

Good riddens,!
