Controversial casino owner drags the local Dutch news site Knipselkrant to court

WILLEMSTAD – The controversial Italian casino owner Francesco Corallo, who lives in St. Maarten, has hired the famous Amsterdam lawyer Gerard Spong to file a complaint in the Netherlands against the Curaçao based news blog Knipselkrant.

On the blog Corallo is described repeatedly as a “mob friend”. According to Spong this is libel and also failure to respect the privacy of his client Corallo.

It appears that Spong has submitted a request to initiate criminal proceedings in Rotterdam against the editor in chief, Nicolaas Herders and provider Hosting Concepts.

Last week it was announced that the Public Prosecution (OM) in Willemstad has rejected a similar request by the local lawyers Peppie Sulvaran and Chester Peterson. These two lawyers felt that the Knipselkrant had wrongly associated them with mafia practices (Corallo and MFK leader Gerrit Schotte are their clients), but the prosecution saw no reason to proceed with the prosecution.

A few days later the Chief Prosecutor of the OM Office in Rotterdam, Marc van Nimwegen received a formal complaint from Spong.

The complaint is about blogs of the Knipselkrant detailing how the Dutch naturalized Italian citizen has been trying to obtain a banking license since 2005 to money launder tens of billions of illegal money.
