WILLEMSTAD – Thousands of volunteers rolled up their sleeves for some 170 projects last Saturday.
According to one of the organizers, Deva-Dee Silliee, about 8,000 men, women and children join forces in Curaçao to help in several projects. That is the same as last year but this time there were 20 more projects and 40 more organizations registered to participate.
Cura Doet is the Curaçao variant of the largest volunteers’ service of the Dutch Kingdom.
All kinds of people – men, women, young and old, workers and individuals – made a day available to assist in a project. One went into nature to take away the trash along a trail, the other made a school looked refreshed after a coat of paint.
Curaçao Chronicle was also part of Cura Doet. Together with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Curaçao Chronicle helped with preparing the land at the Curaçao Zoo and Nature Park for planting.
It was a great day. Hopefully, more people will sign up for next year’s Cura Doet.
