WILLEMSTAD, SANTO DOMINGO – A delegation headed by the Minister of Economic Development Steven Martina is currently in the Dominican Republic seeking to increase trade, investment, and business opportunities between the two countries.

The delegation will be in the country from August 28 until the 31st.

The mission is in coordination with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in that Caribbean country and is composed of 18 institutions and companies from Curaçao in different sectors including tourism, free zones, importers, logistic companies, construction companies, financial institutions, among others.

On August 29, Dominican companies and institutions will have the opportunity to meet and make business contacts in the seminar “Business Opportunities with Curaçao” to be held in the auditorium of the CEI-RD.

“Curaçao imports one billion dollars’ worth of goods annually, and the Dominican Republic only supplies about 20 million dollars annually, which represents multiple market opportunities,” said Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce Taiana Mora.

Mora said there are also many ways to do business, as well as export services. “I urge Dominican companies to take advantage of this visit and establish contacts during the seminar.”

According to a press release, Martina will meet with the following ministers: Foreign Affairs, Industry and Commerce and SMEs, Regional Integration and Energy and Mines. He will also hold meetings with the director of the CEI-RD, the director of Port Authority and the director of the Council of Free Zones. The Minister is also interested in knowing the policy of SMEs of the Dominican government and will visit the SMEs Center of UNPHU, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Promotion to SMEs, Ignacio Méndez.

Minister Martina also stated that the mission’s main objective is “to advance relations between the two countries and to continue to identify opportunities that boost business in multiple sectors.” He noted that Curaçao is an interesting hub for access to the South Caribbean and even the European Union.

The Curaçao Tourism Agency will also make a presentation to the country’s travel offices on interesting offers, in a meeting organized jointly with the aviation company PAWA Dominicana.
