WILLEMSTAD – The Red Cross, but also the Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie and Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath are preparing for a flow of refugees from Venezuela, says spokesman Henk Stomp of the Red Cross.
Those who follow Latin American news channels know that the flow of Venezuelan refugees crossing borders with Venezuela’s neighbors is growing in the run-up to the election for a constitutional assembly next Sunday. Stomp sees for Curaçao no developments similar to Colombia or Brazil.
However, the authorities are already aware that the number of refugees towards Curaçao may be more than 500, an estimate previously assumed. There is already a location designated for shelter and the location for the construction of a tent camp is almost completed.
Venezuelans who request assistance at to the Red Cross are currently referred to the admittance organization.
