Curaçao’s Insel Air eyes strategic partnership

WILLEMSTAD – InselAir’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Kluyver says the Curaçao carrier is in negotiations with an unspecified third party over a possible strategic partnership.

Speaking to IATA, Kluyver said having a viable investor in the airline would assist it in its fleet renewal and upgrade plans.

Last year, he noted InselAir had its eye on used A319-100s as a potential replacement for its aging Fokker Aircraft (Woensdrecht) and McDonnell Douglas (Long Beach) fleets.

“The main aim is to increase the airline’s reach in South America and North America,” he said. “We fly Fokker 50s, Fokker 70s, and MD-80s, but we need to serve longer destinations in South America and improve connectivity.”

Fleet-wise, InselAir operates seven Fokker 50s, two MD-82s, and one MD-83 on scheduled passenger flights to nineteen destinations in Aruba, Colombia, Venezuela, St. Eustatius & Saba, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, the Dominican Republic, St. Maarten, Haiti, Suriname, and the United States.

For its part, the carrier’s InselAir Aruba unit operates five Fokker 70s, one MD-82, and three MD-83s on scheduled passenger flights to Curaçao, Colombia, the United States, Suriname, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and St. Maarten.
