THE HAGUE – The Dutch government does not expect any mass exodus of Venezuelans to the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, such as Curaçao, as the situation deteriorated sharply in Venezuela.

The Dutch MPs are worried about the consequences of the great political turmoil and economic slump in the South American country.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders estimates that Venezuelans will withdraw to their homes or will flee to neighboring countries. In a letter to the parliament, the Minister indicated that there is no sign of increased immigration to Curaçao. He received this information from the Coast Guard.

There will be close consultation between the parties, such as the Ministries of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and Defense, the Embassy in Venezuela, the independent Dutch Caribbean Countries and the Kingdom Representative for Bonaire. There is currently no reason to introduce a (temporary) Caribbean visa for Venezuelans, the Minister said.
