Asjes & Navarro: Government has full confidence in VDC

WILLEMSTAD – The government has complete confidence in the Curaçao Intelligence Service (VDC). This is according to the Prime Minister of Curaçao in response to the questions of the Member of Parliament for the opposition party PAR, Armin Konket. The Premier answered the MP in a letter dated April 20, which was co-signed by the Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro.

However, because of national security, the Prime Minister cannot go into details of other security and intelligence services in the Kingdom and worldwide in the VDC.

Konket also wanted a response from the government on the recently leaked documents from the VDC. The ministers gave no answer.

The ministers indicated in their letter that they regret that several documents of the VDC were leaked and published. These documents dated prior to December 31, 2012. However, in relation to national security, they have decided not to go into detail about this.

The Prime Minister also indicated that he did not respond to the motion of the Lower House in the Dutch Parliament. This was an initiative from the Member of Parliament for the Socialist Party (SP), Ronald van Raak. The Dutch MP requested permission for a direct conversation with whistleblowers within the VDC.

“The local government is working with the Dutch government and has nothing to do with a vote in parliament. It’s the Dutch government that should interfere with this.”
