WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Regional Planning (VVRP) will tackle the infrastructure on the island. Minister Suzy Camelia-Römer will pick up the project “Catching up 2014”, again with the aim of improving the roads and to boost the economy.
Last year the project was on hold for some time. It was supposed to be picked up through a public tender and then added to the 2014 budget. The project was then presented to different contractors and each gave their opinions to the government.
Agreement
Camelia-Römer now has an independent group of engineers, government experts and experts in the field of finance appointed to manage and put the project back on track. The parties have reached an agreement on a solution with regards to the construction work.
Locations
The Minister indicated that now they will make an early start to the work: The roads that will be addressed are:
Old Caracasbaaiweg, Erosweg / Rondeclipweg, Santa Rosaweg (Kwartje / Beurs), Santa Rosaweg (Toni Kunchi / Santa Rosa), Mahaaiweg / Gladiolenweg, Snipweg / Corrieweg, Venezuelaweg and the roundabout at Santa Rosaweg and Hariri (Palu Blanku). The project includes the completion of work on the road to West Point around Tera Kòrá.
Helmin Wiels Boulevard
The Helmin Wiels Boulevard also gets roundabouts. A median will be placed to reduce traffic accidents on this road.
