PHILIPSBURG–In the course of two weeks, Customs has confiscated approximately forty kilos of cocaine and 320 kilos of marijuana.

Customs Officers at Princess Juliana International Airport SXM confiscated approximately 35 kilos of cocaine hidden in two separate handbags in the service panel compartment on board the Air France outbound flight on Thursday, March 30. No arrests have been made and the investigation is still ongoing, the Customs Department announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Customs Officers at the airport again confiscated four packages of cocaine weighing approximately five kilos on-board Air Canada’s flight on Saturday, April 8. The packages were hidden in one of the toilet cabinets on board the Air Canada outbound flight.

Suspects S.L.B. and C.A.D., both Canadian nationals, have been arrested. Both persons have been taken in custody as the investigation continues.

Customs at Port St. Maarten confiscated approximately 320 kilos of marijuana packed in 14 boxes in a container during a routine control on Monday, April 10.

When opening the container, which originated from Jamaica, the officers made a thorough search of it. The Justice Department’s K-9 units were called in to confirm that there were no more drugs hidden in other areas of the container.

Customs Department head Anthony Doran said Customs will intensify its controls at the Airport and harbour facilities during the Carnival season.
