Port St. Maarten Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Mingo

PHILIPSBURG–Port St. Maarten Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Mingo, who was released from pre-trial detention on Wednesday, June 28, is currently on leave of absence from the Port.

Port St. Maarten said in a press release on Friday that in close consultations with its Supervisory Board, Mingo “will take a short leave of absence allowing him to reunite with his family” following his release.

“The Supervisory Board will have subsequent consultations with Mr. Mingo upon his return to address the further developments. The shareholder representative has also been advised of the latest developments,” the release said.

Mingo was arrested on June 7 in connection with the Emerald investigation. To ensure continuous management of the Port, Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunication (TEATT) Melissa Arrindell-Doncher had appointed two persons as the Port’s caretakers during Mingo’s absence. Mingo was released from pre-trial detention on June 28 after being detained for three weeks.
