Royal Decoration for 33 in Dutch Caribbean

THE HAGUE–Thirty-three persons in the Dutch Caribbean received a Royal Decoration on the occasion of the King’s birthday: 18 in Curaçao, five in Aruba, four in Bonaire, four in St. Maarten and two in St. Eustatius.

The Dutch Government announced the list of Royal Decorations on Tuesday, the day before the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. A total of 2,752 persons in the Dutch Kingdom received a Royal Decoration this year, the vast majority living in the Netherlands.

Sint Maarten

In St. Maarten, E.L. Brissett and paediatrician Pieter Offringa received  a Royal Decoration in the Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. Decorated as Members in the Order of Oranje-Nassau were Mrs. Shelly Alphonso and Mrs. V.M. Benjamin-Oliver.

Sint Eustatius & Saba

In St. Eustatius, Mrs. O.A. Berkel-Morris and C.E.G. van Putten received a Royal Decoration in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. No one was decorated in Saba.

Bonaire

In Bonaire, Ubaldo Anthony and Alipio Goeloe were decorated Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau, while Tecla Piar-Martilio and Josefina Sillié-Coffi became a Member in the Order of Oranje-Nassau.

Curacao

In Curaçao, four persons were decorated as Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau: A.W. Owers (promoted), C.B.G. van Aanholt, composer J.G. Colina and R.D.B. Nandwani. Members in the Order of Oranje-Nassau became F.M. Hanze, R.C. Hato, Mrs. Y.A. Isidora-Gumbs, Mrs. M.M. Jansen-Liberia, Mrs. E.E. Leonard-Bryan, T.A. Martina, D.E. Mourillon, Mrs. R.I.C. Samson, former dive school operator Eric Wederfoort, R.F.M. Wijngaarde, A.J. de Wit and Mrs. K. van Zwieten.

Aruba

In Aruba, five persons were decorated as Member in the Order of Oranje-Nassau: F.N. Dijkhoff, D.G. Figaroa, Mrs. M.A. Maduro-Tromp, J.P. Ras and N.F. Sprok.

Thirteen persons, all in the Netherlands, received a decoration in the Order of the Dutch Lion, ten men and three women. Most decorations, 2,739, were in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. The bestowing of the decorations, also referred to as “Lintjesregen” in the Dutch language, is an annual occurrence.

More men than women received a Royal Decoration: 1,787 men (close to 65 per cent) versus 965 women (a little over 35 per cent). The Member in the order of Oranje-Nassau was the most bestowed Royal Decoration: 2,437 persons received this decoration (or 88.5 per cent), of which 1,549 were men and 888 women.

Most persons, 2,701 in total, were decorated for their volunteer work. Government received 3,165 proposals for a decoration this year of which 413 (or 13 per cent) were turned down following a negative advice.
