On Guyeau Estate at Guyeau on the eastern slopes of the island

ST. EUSTATIUS–The largest-ever luxury hotel and residential complex on St. Eustatius will be built on Guyeau Estate at Guyeau on the eastern slopes of the island. The development will include a harbour for mega yachts and a heliport. The hotel will comprise up to 120 high-class rooms, it has been announced.

Development planning has already received the blessing of the Island Government pending various environmental and archaeological studies still in progress.

The remains of former plantation structures including a cemetery with six graves are on the grounds. A public meeting to file for possible objections is planned for mid-March.

Chairman of the Island Council’s Central Committee Reuben Merkman, who broke the news during Thursday’s Council meeting, is delighted with the plans.

“This exciting development is already receiving the full backing of Government and the Planning Department,” said Merman.

Luxury villas on the estate will vary from 1,500 to 3,000 square metres and have stunning ocean views. Set on a peaceful slice of the “Historical Gem,” residents will also enjoy the scenic lush-green slopes of the extinct Quill volcano and the adjacent Miriam C. Schmidt Botanical Garden.

Whereas the price for such luxury homes has not yet been disclosed, it is assumed that the estate will compete directly with similar establishments in the neighbouring islands of St. Kitts, Nevis, Antigua and St. Barths.
