SIMPSON BAY–The St Maarten Heineken Regatta organisation is hosting a kick-off party for the Regatta Village’s grand opening in Port de Plaisance today, Monday, February 25, at 6:00pm, just days away from the start of the much anticipated 39th edition starting Thursday, February 28 until Sunday, March 3.
Organisers are excited to show what people can expect during the week of the regatta. Visitors can stroll among the many booths where vendors display their products, enjoy delicious food from a variety of food stands, check out the Art and Eco Park, all while enjoying an ice-cold Heineken.
Remo and the Barbwire Band will be performing from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The popular local band will get everyone dancing to crowd favourites and a selection of their new songs from their upcoming CD release.
The remainder of the week is taken up with sailor registration, racing, daily prize-giving and live music. A food court is open for lunch and dinner. For those staying in the Simpson Bay area the organisers recommend taking the shuttle across to Port de Plaisance from St. Maarten Yacht Club.
Tuesday, February 26 to Wednesday, February 27, is sailor’s registration. The Village will be open to the public from 10:00am onwards and is a great place to enjoy lunch, shop for souvenirs and official regatta gear and listen to Regatta Radio broadcast by Island 92. Both afternoons end with live music from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Racing takes place on the beautiful seas Thursday through Sunday. For those who cannot be out on the water, you can still feel part of it at the Regatta Village where live racing action will be broadcast. The village opens every day at 10:00am for shopping, lunch and happy hour.
Join the sailors as they come off the water and listen to their accounts of the day’s action. Enjoy the music from local musicians from 4:00pm to 6:00pm as the sun sets. Daily prizegiving for the racers starts at 6:00pm followed by nightly concerts on the main stage.
A wonderful variety of food vendors will be open for business until the early hours, ready to serve a wide array of food; healthy treats, pizza, ribs, Johnny Cakes, sushi and much more.
Four nights of fabulous concerts can be enjoyed Thursday to Sunday with headliners such as: the What the Funk Band, Alison Hinds, Third World, Fatman Scoop, Shermanology, and the Jacksons!
