WILLEMSTAD—Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) Supervisory Board Chairman Etienne Ys was never involved in the insurance activities of Ennia, he told the Amigoe newspaper after questions about a possible conflict of interest.
Until 2014 the former Antillean finance minister worked as advisor to the National Investment Bank (NIB) of Ennia-owner Husang Ansary shareholder. During his first years of service from 2006 to 2010 he was “made available” to government by his employer to help negotiate the constitutional reforms within the Kingdom of the Netherlands per 10-10-10.
“My job had nothing to do with the insurance work of Ennia, I did not give advice on that, said Ys,” indicating he played no role in the current issues regarding the firm’s investment policies. “I also wasn’t director but advisor.”
He stated that the complaint filed against Ennia is based on recent events: The withdrawal of US $100 million from the account of one of its related companies. “I wasn’t even there. If I gave wrong advice it was not in an executive function and would theoretically be held accountable for something four years ago and not now.”
Ys went through a screening to become CBCS chairman and gave up his board membership in two companies that fall under the financial sector supervisor’s control. He would not specify which ones.
