Op donderdag 16 juli 2015 hebben de Procureur-Generaal van Curaçao, van Sint Maarten en van Bonaire, Sint Eustatius en Saba, dhr. Guus Schram en de Hoofdofficier dhr. Ton Maan, een werkbezoek gebracht aan de gevangenis in Pointe Blanche.
Ze werden ontvangen door de directeur van de inrichting, dhr. Rohan. Aanleiding van het bezoek was het kritische rapport van de Raad voor de Rechtshandhaving over de mate van veiligheid en beveiliging in de gevangenis.
In dit rapport zijn 15 concrete aanbevelingen gedaan om tot verbetering te komen. De Procureur-Generaal en de Hoofdofficier hebben met de directeur onder meer gesproken over de vele uitdagingen waar de gevangenis voor staat.
Een rondleiding maakte deel uit van het bezoek. Daarbij heeft het gevangenispersoneel onder andere uitleg gegeven over de regels en orde in de inrichting, de dagelijkse gang van zaken, de beschikbare faciliteiten, het nieuwe monitorsysteem voor elektronisch toezicht en het speciale programma voor jong volwassenen.
Zowel de Procureur-Generaal als de Hoofdofficier waren onder de indruk hoe het personeel onder zeer moeilijke omstandigheden hun werkzaamheden uitvoeren. De Procureur-Generaal en de Hoofdofficier hebben hun intentie uitgesproken na enkele maanden opnieuw een werkbezoek aan de gevangenis af te leggen.
Attorney General and the Chief Prosecutor pay a working visit to the prison in Pointe Blanche
On Thursday July 16, 2015, the Attorney General of Curaçao, of Sint Maarten and of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba mr Guus Schram and the Chief Prosecutor mr Ton Maan, visited the prison of Sint Maarten in Pointe Blanche.
They were welcomed by the director of the prison, mr Rohan. One of the reasons of the visit was the critical report by the Law Enforcement Council about the security and safety in the prison. In this report 15 recommendations were given for improvement. With the director were discussed, among other things, the concerns and challenges the prison is facing.
A tour of the prison was also part of the visit. Prison staff gave explanations about the rules and order in the prison, the daily course of affairs, the facilities, the new monitor system for electronic surveillance and the special program for young adults.
The Attorney General and the Chief Prosecutor were impressed by how the prison staff execute their duties under very difficult circumstances. The Attorney General and the Chief Prosecutor expressed their intention to pay a next working visit to the prison after several months.
