PrensaLatina | Russia warns Curacao’s used in plans against Venezuela

HomeMediaPrensaLatina | Russia warns Curacao's used in plans against Venezuela
We hope that the Curaçao government will avoid using its territory as a foothold for a new Western adventure, capable of destabilizing the situation in the area,’ said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zajarova.

Moscow, March 28 (Prensa Latina) Russia warned on Thursday about the United States” intention to use the island of Curacao in order to implement plans against Venezuela under the pretext of humanitarian aid.

We hope that the Curaçao government will avoid using its territory as a foothold for a new Western adventure, capable of destabilizing the situation in the area,’ said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zajarova.

The spokeswoman drew attention to the signing on the 15th of an agreement between the United States and the Netherlands for the use of the island of Curacao as a concentration point for the purpose of distributing ‘humanitarian aid’ to Venezuela.

Apparently, Washington’s access to the island’s infrastructure facilities is authorized for the sole purpose of providing ‘humanitarian aid’ to Venezuela and only with civilian means, the Russian diplomat said.

According to the spokeswoman, both the Parliament and the Government of Curacao initially disagreed with this maneuver, as they wanted to avoid tension in relations with Caracas.

But they were apparently pressured and promised that Curaçao’s infrastructure would never be used for military purposes, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

In reality, however, the Netherlands gave the United States a free hand to use Curaçao as a military facility for violent interference in Venezuelan affairs under the pretext of humanitarian aid, she said.

Such an agreement, if necessary, also does not exclude the possibility not only of using civilian means, but also of transporting other types of cargo. It is clear that it would be the military, added the Russian diplomat.

Zajarova pointed out that in other parts of the world, such as Libya, a whole country was destroyed under the pretext of protecting the population and democracy, and then conferences and forums were held to resolve the crisis.

We believe that everything should be the other way around, that is to say, first holding forums and conferences to coordinate with the people affected how to get out of the crisis, before attempting to use force and create chaos, said the spokeswoman.
